Les Bradd Far Post Book Terry Bowles STENCIL cover design 2017

Les Bradd

It’s 50 years in October since the man known to his colleagues as ‘Bomber’ signed for Notts County and the fascinating life story of this Meadow Lane hero is well overdue to be told. The all-time record goal-scorer looks in-depth at his career – on and off the field – and gives an exclusive insight into his relationship with Seventies giants like Jimmy Sirrel, Tony Hateley and Don Masson. The memories will come flooding back for fans of that era.

“This fascinating book perfectly charts the rise of one of County’s great characters. His goalscoring feat will never be equalled”

The Editor:
Terry Bowles

Terry Bowles has worked closely with Les to produce Far Post, calling on his own memories of when he covered Notts County for the Nottingham Evening Post from 1973-78. He continued to work closely with the club for much of the next 30 years after launching his own media agency, producing the match programme and handling their communications activities. He and Les are good friends and regular golf partners.

136  League, FA Cup and League Cup goals for Notts County

50  Years since he moved to Meadow Lane for a fee of £1,000

434  Appearances for the Magpies in all competitions

131 Appearances for Stockport County – scoring 35 goals

75 League & Cup appearances for Wigan Athletic – 27 goals

The boy from Buxton was told he would never make it as a professional footballer because no one from the north Derbyshire outpost ever did. But Les Bradd defied them all, starting out with Rotherham and finishing with Stockport, Wigan and Bristol Rovers. In between, he etched his place in Notts County history over an 11-year period and to this day, he remains as popular as ever with the County faithful. Hands up those who can still see him soaring in to meet a cross at the far post!
